Simple Ideas for Catholic Youth Ministry

This site is dedicated to supporting the faith, families, and ministries of Catholic Youth Ministers.

I try to keep my resources simple, practical , and inexpensive (when I say “inexpensive,” I mean they will be “free” whenever possible).

Here is my mission statement: To love God with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love my neighbor as myself.
~Mk 12:30-31

About the Author

My name is Doug Royal, and I converted to the Catholic Church in 2000. The reason I converted is simple - I met Christ through the people in his Church.

I started volunteering in my parish’s youth ministry program, and in September 2003, when our youth minister left, my pastor offered me the job. My first couple of years were tough, but we got through.

If possible, I’d like to help other new Catholic Youth Ministers avoid some of the problems we had.

I’m married and have two children . . . Actually, I married into a family of Catholic geeks. My wife minored in Theology, her dad is a deacon, and her youngest brother is in the seminary, and her mom and sister are two of the holiest people I know. Sitting around a dinner table with them and our two kids is one of the greatest joys in my life.

I keep a blog about non youth-ministry stuff at dougroyal.com

The Name: joyomin

The name, joyomin, is the result of five months worth of brainstorming; I couldn’t come up with any url’s with “Catholic,” “Youth,” or “Ministry” that weren’t already taken, so I invented a word: joyomin. It stands for St. Joseph Youth Ministry. St. Joseph was a man of faith, he was married, and he was a dad (and therefore he was a youth minister - to Jesus).

St. Joseph, pray for us.
Pray that we will be as faithful to God as you were,
That we will love our spouses as well as you loved Mary,
And that we will raise our children as well as you raised Jesus.
Amen +
